Volunteer Opportunities

 NFL American Football Volunteers at Twickenham We are looking for volunteers to welcome visitors to Hounslow and direct them to Twickenham on Sunday 22 October 12noon  – 5pm (game starts at 6pm)      and Sunday 29 October 9am – 12.30pm (game starts at 1.30pm) You will receive a FREE ticket for the game along with training and a NFL jacket. GoodGym are a group of runners who get fit by doing Good! The tasks can be anything physical that their volunteers can work on for 30-45 minutes. Examples of typical tasks include, Gardening, weeding and clearing parks or open spaces. Starts at Chiswick Town Hall, near Turnham Green

   Would you like to be a resident estate inspector? Hounslow Housing are looking for enthusiastic tenants and leaseholders who are interested in being trained up as Resident Estate Inspectors. Resident Estate Inspectors are volunteers who live in council properties. They are trained to inspect and monitor the communal areas on our estates. If you become an inspector, we will train you on what to look for when on estates and whether the cleaning and gardening is of an acceptable standard.   What’s in it for me? You will gain a greater understanding of our service standards You will be helping us to shape and improve our services  Add new skills and experience to your CV including team work, communication skills and organisational skills. New Our Parks fitness sessions Our Parks run free classes in in Hanworth Park and Redlees Park. Classes are suitable for a range of abilities and run by fully qualified instructors.   

Junior parkrun in Hanworth and Osterley The 2k runs are suitable for 4-14 year olds. Hounslow’s new Junior Parkrun in Hanworth Park and Osterley National Trust Park led by a team of dedicated community volunteers.   

Parkruns Run by volunteers, it’s a friendly way to get back to exercise or take up a new hobby - 9am every Saturday at Osterley Park, Bedfont Lakes, Crane park and Gunnersbury Park the following   

Green Gym help improve people’s health and wellbeing whilst creating green spaces for communities to enjoy. Gardening for health and exercise!   

Beat the street Hounslow Parks will host new Beat the Street boxes when the programme starts 22ndSeptember 2017. Beat the Street is a simple competition that turns your town into a real life game. Players walk, run or cycle around the area. Your journeys are recorded via cards which are tapped on sensors called Beat Boxes as you travel around town! The Beat Boxes are installed on lamp-posts about half a mile apart. Remember to tap two Beat Boxes within an hour to record your journey!   

One You Hounslow Provides friendly local information for residents looking to ‘move more’ or be more physically active. All our physical activity projects are listed here and we encourage partners also to list activities and sessions for the local community to get involved in   

Active 10  A daily brisk ten minute walk can be simple to fit into your everyday life. 50,000 people are already on their way to a healthier lifestyle as they have downloaded the free ‘Active 10’ app. This new app shows how much brisk walking you’re doing, when you can increase your pace and how you can fit more brisk walking into your day. It also sets goals and provides hints and tips to keep you going.  Download the Active 10 app here   

Heart Age Test Modern day life makes it hard to be healthy, so it’s not surprising that most of us are not fitting enough physical activity into our days. The good news is that you don’t have to wear sports kit or start an expensive fitness programme to get the benefits of an active lifestyle - brisk walking counts too!   

Stoptober, the 28-day stop smoking campaign from Public Health England, is back from 1st October.Stoptober has driven over 1 million quit attempts to date and is the biggest mass quit attempt in the country. If you can make it to 28 days smokefree, you’re 5 times more likely to stay quit for good.  To sign up to get support by text and e-mail for Stoptober see here. One You Hounslow have drop-in clinics across the borough of Hounslow providing support for you to stop smoking for Stoptober.  Using stop smoking medication with face-to-face support makes you four times more likely to stop smoking compared to trying to quit on your own.  For a full list of stop smoking drop-in clinics click here.
